Before we go anywhere else, I want to declare something upfront: this is a faith-based space. I am a believer in Christ, and I believe that everything we do—including how we build, spend, and create—is ultimately centred around the Word of God.
When Jesus spoke about the cost of discipleship in Luke 14:25–35, He gave a powerful analogy about building:
“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you…”
Jesus was teaching about following Him, but He used a picture of construction—because even in something as practical as building, wisdom and preparation matter. To follow Christ, we must count the cost. And to build anything—whether a home, an investment property, or even a renovation—we must also count the cost.
Why Counting the Cost Matters
Too often, construction projects begin with excitement but end with frustration, stalled works, or unnecessary debt. Many times, this isn’t because people lacked vision or desire—it’s because they didn’t pause to prepare, budget, and fully understand the journey before starting.
Counting the cost doesn’t mean killing your dream. It means protecting it. It’s about making sure your foundation—financial, emotional, and spiritual—is strong enough to sustain what you’re building. It’s an act of stewardship, of honoring the resources God has entrusted us with, and of ensuring that our projects glorify Him rather than becoming sources of waste or regret.
Building with Wisdom
For me, construction has always been more than bricks and mortar. It’s about stewardship, clarity, and empowerment. As women especially, we are often decision-makers in our homes and communities, yet construction can feel overwhelming or intimidating. My hope is that Builder Jane becomes a place where we can learn to build wisely and confidently, without falling into the traps of hidden costs or poor preparation.
When we pause to count the cost—just as Christ instructs—we invite wisdom, discipline, and faith into the process. We align our building not only with good financial sense but also with God’s Word, ensuring that what we create stands strong and serves its purpose.
So as we begin this journey together, let’s remember: building well starts long before the first brick is laid. It starts with preparation, prayer, and counting the cost.
Luke 14:28-30
28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.”
